Knowledge is power and data is the key to knowledge. There is no certainty that small and medium farmers will benefit from commercially developed applications. There is a significant risk that they will be further marginalized and disadvantaged as the last in line to benefit from the data revolution.

For Farm Associations, even for small systems, organizing data from multiple  stakeholders in a useful way can be challenging. The datasets, if they are published at  all, appear in an ad hoc way, without any coordination, schema alignment or controlled vocabularies to  guide the consumer about how to combine them.

Agriculture is particularly challenging in this regard, because of the wide variety of relevant domains. With many hundreds of new data collection apps on the market, the challenge becomes even bigger.
